Uniform

Uniform is comfy and practical, and means no-one feels uncomfortable or left out. It helps everyone feel part of the Group, and provides a place to show off all the badges you earn.

What To Wear

During our weekly meetings, our members should all wear their section appropriate jumper (Beavers and Cubs) or shirt (for Scouts), plus the Group’s “necker” (scarf). Typically our members will wear a casual bottom half for comfort.

For special occasions – like an award ceremony, a parade or other public event – navy trousers and black shoes can be worn if preferred.

For each section there are lots of optional accessories you can wear, such as t-shirts, hats/caps, hoodies, belts and more.

Necker

Each Scout Group has an individual “necker”, or scarf which is worn by members of all sections, as well as the leaders. The colour of 1st Chew Stoke Scouts Group’s “necker” is primarily navy blue, with purple and black inset borders.

The necker is given to the members (along with a woggle and membership badges) when they are invested into the Group, and should be worn as they move up through the Group.

Neckers are worn around the neck, fastened at the front with the woggle.

Badges

Badges are awarded for activities and challenges, among other things. When badges are awarded, they should be attached in the correct location as shown in the uniform diagrams below.

There are many YouTube guides available giving hints and advice on how to sew badges onto uniform – this one is a good example.

Badge glue is also an option, and is available from the Scout Shop. In my experience, the glue mostly does a decent job of holding the badges on, but it can damage the uniform when you try to take the badge off, either to upgrade it or if you want to re-use or sell on the uniform.

Where Can I Get Scout Uniform?

Uniform can be purchased from The Scout Shop, among other stockists.

Second hand uniform can often be found on eBay, Vinted, Facebook marketplace etc. There is a Facebook group called “Scouts UK – Recycle my uniform“, although you need to join the group and there is not always loads available.
