Beavers

Try new things. Make new friends. Joining Beavers is just the beginning of your big adventure.

Our Beavers Colony is for all young people aged 6 to 8. We meet at Chew Stoke Methodist Church on Mondays during term-time from 18:00 to 19:00.

What Do Beavers Get Up To?

Being a Beaver is very different from going to school. Instead of learning from books, you’ll figure the world out by exploring, playing and doing.

The most important skills you’ll learn at Beavers are the ones that will make you feel super strong standing on your own two feet. We call these character skills. They include things like integrity – which means being honest and doing what you think is right – and initiative – which means knowing how to take the lead on something without being asked. It’s all about having the courage to try new things and learn from them.

Recent activities include:

  • Cooking cakes in a mug
  • Rounders
  • Water filtering
  • Egg drop
  • Hikes
  • Fire station visit
  • Foraging to make a fruit crumble
  • Building a bird box

Uniform

Beaver uniform consists of a blue sweatshirt . See the uniform page for more details.

How To Join

We operate a waiting list system for our Beaver Colony, with priority given to children of our volunteers. To add your young person to the waiting list, please contact us, including your young person’s name and date of birth. We can’t accept new registrations until your young person is at least 5 years old. We always welcome more volunteers – as a volunteer leader or committee member your young person gets a priority place as spaces become available.
